How to Restore Favorites list from Computers Backup File

Have you spent your time creating a favorites list on your Internet browser? Just about everyone is going to slowly create a list over time of their favorite websites. Unfortunately, when you create that list you may find yourself forgetting some of the websites that you would otherwise use.

Steps to Recover Favorites Backup in Internet Explorer

Now, if you are using Internet Explorer it's actually not as difficult as you might think to get your favorites list back. There are actually a couple different options that you can try in order to get back to surfing the Internet the way you normally do.

  1. The first thing is to open the wizard and look for your Add to Favorites button.
  2. From here, you will want to select Import and Export.
  3. Once you have reached this window you will be ready to import your favorites list from a file as your computer will perform automatic saves of your favorites file under the name "bookmark.htm."
  4. If there is no file listed in your computer under this name you can search your computers backups.
  5. Tell the Wizard tool that you would like to restore files and search for the Favorites folder listed under your username.
  6. Finally, click to restore the file.

 

Steps to Recover Favorites Backup file in Firefox

If you are using Mozilla Firefox as your default browser the process to restore your favorites is also quite simple.

  1. Open the Bookmarks menu.
  2. Go into the Organize Bookmarks section.
  3. You will now be in the Library.
  4. Now you will want to select Restore from the window and go into the Import and Backup page
  5. Finally, restore the most recent backup of your favorites

Steps to Recover Favorites List Backup file in Chrome

If you use Google Chrome as your Internet browser you will be able to restore favorites and backups very easily. In fact, you don't even need to open your Internet browser in order to do it.

  1. Open your file explorer on your computer desktop.
  2. Navigate through to C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default.
  3. You will find a file named Bookmarks.bak
  4. Click to rename the file (this is your most recent backup of your bookmarks folder from the last time you opened your browser)
  5. Rename this file to simply Bookmarks and click to save.
  6. You may need to save over an old file but make sure that you do as this is going to bring back the favorites that you wanted.



Each of these browsers is going to allow you to restore all of your bookmarks much faster than you would have expected. No matter which browser you use it's going to allow you to bring back what you've lost and that's important when you really need those websites to get back to what you want most. Choose your normal browser when you start the restore process. Your bookmarks usually do not transfer between browsers.

Keep in mind also that if these methods do not work you may need to find a professional to work on your computer and check into different methods of gathering your old files and favorites lists.
